Dearëst Zoë,

Once upon a time, a gazillion and three years ago, I started a journal for you. It wasn't the typical mother-to-baby journal like the type I keep on here. I don't record our day to day moments in it. Instead, it's a record of 1,000 things I want you to know and remember through out your life.

The Japanese have a custom of folding 1,000 cranes to represent their devotion to the person they give it to. The cranes also represent good luck. I think it's a beautiful custom and so I've been folding cranes for you since last year. Each crane represents one of the 1,000 quotes recorded in the journal and it's sprinkled through out with little love notes from me to you and collages of beautiful pictures, emphasizing love, particularly the love between mother and child. The journal is a small little book with a moss-green suede cover embossed with a simple leaf design. It represents growth. I hope this little book will help you grow just as putting it together has helped me to grow too.

I'll be keeping track of the quotes used in on this blog in a separate tab called Dance of 1,000 Cranes. Once the cranes are all folded, I plan to string them together in a one immense mobile that will hang in your room. If it's somehow not apparent so far, I just want this project to symbolize the joy and light you've brought into my life and how utterly in love with you I am.

All my love,

Mama
